A recent widow, Olivia is adrift in her centuries’ old home until the female spirits that inhabit the land bring three of Olivia’s great friends back into her life. The four women become housemates and in the process learn to collaborate to collectively resolve their daunting challenges. Each one has work or relationship issues that they find can be dealt with by leaning on each other, and recognizing the bond that pulls them together.
As the women work together to save Lorton Landing, Olivia becomes involved in a powerful and sexual relationship with a widowed neighbor and finds a deeper love than she ever thought possible. The three other women grow along with Olivia, and become strong enough to get rid of the things in their life, including the men, that have been holding them back.
Ms. Dunn has created characters that, by end of the book, feel like personal friends. A fast paced, character driven story, “Ladies of Lorton Landing,” will surprise and enchant you from beginning to end.

As much as I enjoyed Marie Dunn's first two books (A Thousand Awkward Moments and Bradford Place) I enjoyed The Ladies of Lorton Landing even more! This is a well-developed story about four strong women, who aren't aware how strong they are until they are brought together at Lorton Landing after the sudden death of Olivia Lorton's husband. The history is rich, the characters are full of life and the suspense keeps building. I was surprised by the ending and thrilled by it! Get it and read it as soon as you can! You won't be disappointed!
This book is not a great work of lasting art but it did provide me with a light-hearted read for a summer day while I was on vacation.
What a great beach read! Fast, fun with a just the right amount of mystery and suspense. The ladies of Lorton Landing will have you cheering as they figure life out and move into the future while discovering Lorton Landing's past. I suspect there will be more stories concentrating on each of Olivia's friends that you meet in the book, at least I hope so!
